May this divine light illuminate our intellect.The Vedic way of life is a coalescence of 16 samskaras or rites of passages. The Thread Ceremony is one such pious right. Called by many names Upanayanam, Bhramopadeshan, Janeu and many more across the country it is performed to mark the transition of a boy from Balyam (childhood) to Brahmacharyam ( adulthood) and his acceptance as a participating member of his religious community.

It is usually performed in the adolescent years of the boy, however in some cultures it is performed right before his wedding.
