Among Sikhs the Dastar is an integral and important part of the unique Sikh identity. The Dastar is an article of faith that represents Courage, Spirituality, Equality, Honour and Self-respect. Dastar Bandi is an important event in the life of a young Sikh boy, it is the first time a baby pink coloured turban is tied on his head by an elder of the family. In a Gurudwara, before Guru Granth Sahib, prayers are recited to invoke Guru’s blessings on the boy. The Granthi recites the importance of Dastar and explains why one must cover their hair with a turban as they believe hair is God’s creation and must be protected and not altered.
