The actual traditional Tripura Marriage system is called “Hamjwk Tubui Kaimani” where the “Raibai” the matchmaker brings the marriage proposal to the bride’s family on behalf of the grooms family. After the bride price is decided then the wedding date called ‘Koksungma’ or “Mangalacharan” is fixed.The day before the marriage, women will cut betel leaves and nuts on the name of the bride and the groom and make “Ulu” sound twisting their lips, three times for the bride and seven times for the groom. This ceremony is called “Kuaitano”. On the wedding date “Dangdua” ritual is performed and thereafter a grand feast is organized to commemorate the event.
