What is Jalwa Ceremony?

Jalwa Ceremony newborn celebration ritual performed after the birth of a baby. It marks the formal social announcement and blessing of the child within the extended family and community

How is Jalwa Ceremony Celebrated?

During the Jalwa Ceremony, the mother traditionally makes her first public appearance after childbirth and the newborn is formally introduced to relatives and the extended family. The occasion usually includes small puja rituals performed for the well-being and prosperity of the baby, along with the exchange of gifts and blessings from family members and guests. In many households, the celebration is accompanied by songs and joyful gatherings that mark the arrival of the newborn. In some traditions, the ceremony may also include Kuan Pujan as one of the important ritual steps within the overall celebration.

What is Kuan Puja?

Water, an integral part of Panch Maha Bhoot or the five basic elements as we know them, is worshiped as god in most cultures of the Indian subcontinent. The Kuan Poojan is one such ritual that reinforces the sacred relation between humans and nature, especially water. The family and friends who are invited to to witness this devotion, shower the mother and child with warm wishes and gifts. Make this a grand occasion. These adaptations allow families to preserve the

Historically, some communities performed these ceremonies mainly after the birth of a boy.
